The Friday Talent Show is our very own talent and variety show with singing, dancing, lip-synch, and comedy featuring you! It is the highlight of an evening that begins with cocktails and a full meal served at the elegant and historic Elk's Lodge. Since 2000, attendees at Esprit have had the chance to make their dreams come true, that is, if your dream is to dress up like your idol and get up on stage shaking your booty and performing!
This year's theme is a send up of an American sci-fi classic. So, fair warning girls, bring your sexiest shiny space suit, rocket boots and phaser (set on stunning -- of course) or your favorite glamorous galactic gown. We've got none other than "Star Trans: The Next Genderation" coming to you at warp factor 9. You'll see Willma Stiletto playing Captain Jane T. Skirt of the USS Genderprize taking on the more difficult challenges that the universe can throw at her -- like, "what sex should I be?" And her sturdy crew of gender bending officers will be there to assist: Lenora Nimrod as the Vulcanized first officer Spandex (fondly refered to by those on the bridge as Spank); and co-starring DeFrocked Kelty as Dr. McCoy "Damn it Jane, I'm a Cross Dresser not a Transvestite!"; Georgette Takit as Mrs. Zulu; and Halter Boning as Ms. Jakeoff.
Of course someone has to play the favorite genetic female roles of Lt. Uhura and (who could ever forget the blonde hottie) Yeoman Rand. But please, don't feel you have to come as someone from the first series, let your creativity go Galactic to any corner of time or science fiction genre! We're sure we'll even be paid a visit by Darthy Vader and Barbarella before the evening is over. You, my dears, are invited to contribute any act of your choice to the show. This year, for the first time ever, there will be a magic act! Perhaps even two!
Due to popular demand, this event is open to the public for a $5 cover charge (donated to charity) after the meal has concluded (approximately 8PM). Esprit staff and a local security guard will provide security and screen local guests. There will be a no-host bar serving alcohol so you must be 21 or over.
After the talent show, a live band featuring TG members from last year's Friday band will play a wide range of pop music spanning 3 decades for your entertainment and dancing. For the more adventurous, The Nasty Habits will play their edgy 80's dance covers to their throngs of local fans in town (schedule/map). Esprit attendees are encouraged to join the friendly local crowd that comes out for the fun. You won't want to miss this great night of entertainment!
One more day left and we are definitely not ending quietly! On Saturday we start by honoring our first time attendees in a special ceremony ...
Talent Show Participant Guidelines
|
There are some basic guidelines that must be followed in order to make the show as enjoyable as possible.
Everyone gets to be in the show (unless there is a real time constraint and too many acts). Pretty much anything goes, as long as it's satisfactory for the diverse, all-age audience that we have at Esprit. Participants will be limited to one turn up on stage with possible exceptions for well-rehearsed performances by players with established track records if we have a surplus of time. Performers are asked to restrict acts (songs/skits/sketches/etc.) to five minutes, as we're trying keep the show at a reasonable length and fast-paced.

Rehearsal is usually late in the week. The rehearsal time will be posted on the schedule as soon as possible but you should also check the Registration Desk for last minute scheduling announcements.
To avoid media and equipment incompatibilities, we recommended that you bring an original factory CD. You may bring your own burned audio or MP3 CD or cassette tape as a backup but personal copies have proven to be unreliable. You can email an electronic copy of your music to our show coordinator ahead of time to work out any glitches.
So get out there, get your acts together and practice, practice, practice! If you have any questions, want to get your act in the lineup early, or have equipment/stage questions, contact the talent show coordinator.
