She studied with well known names such as Aziza Sa'id, Politti Ashcraft, Karima Wajid, and Jahan. She shared the stage multiple times with the musical talents of Jeremiah Soto of Solace, was invited back to the University of Redlands 3 consecutive years to perform and teach for the archaeology department as well as performed for the Foreign Languages and Arts Department at Cal State San Bernardino. A veteran performer, Merryn was regularly seen performing at Babylon's in Riverside, CA as well as becoming a familiar face at Belly Dance events and the Southern California Renaissance Faires. She is on the web at http://www.myspace.com/merrynemar Since re-locating to the Pacific Northwest, Merryn has taught at Peninsula College, danced multiple times at the Juan de Fuca Festival of the Arts as well as numerous other venues around the area; most recently along side the well known band, The Nasty Habits at 7 Cedars Casino. Merryn presents: Introduction to Belly Dance In her class, Merryn touches on the history of where and how the dance originated and has evolved, as well as basic dance movements that help to gain muscle co-ordination, flexibility and balance. Students learn that the art of the dance encompasses much more than just movement... It is about celebrating and honoring every aspect of life. It is about connecting to, and being comfortable within our skin and is just plain a lot of fun! Students are asked to remove their shoes and to please wear clothing that is not restrictive or binding. |
