Cheryl Cristello

I hold a BS and MS in engineering from Oregon State University. I am now officially "retired" from my job of 29 years as a construction manager specializing in the design and building of wastewater treatment facilities. Being retired is arguably one of the best things that ever happened to me as I am very much enjoying no longer being in charge and responsible.

My "work" now focuses on giving back to my community as a volunteer as a member of the Pierce County Aging and Long Term Care Advisory Board, the Mutli Care PACT Advisory Board, OASIS, the Rainbow Center, and as secretary for the local chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Bored I am absolutely not. Frankly, I have no idea how I ever had time to work for a living! I also lead a transgender book group which focuses on issues relevant to women and transgender people. I am an avid cyclist, exerciser. I do not tolerate fools well and very much appreciate intelligent debate especially with republicans. I LOVE quotes which is the one thing which I post on facebook daily, one of my favorites being "Well behaved women rarely make history" -- Laurel Thatcher Birch. A philosophy which I fully subscribe to.

Healthy Mind and Body

This class is relevant to all people, not just those of us who may be transgender. Living a complete, healthy and vital life demands that we tend to the health of our minds as well as our bodies. We transgender people often live with and within ourselves in a manner which is not conducive to our overall well being. How we live not only can but does impact our loved ones and friends may also struggle with similar issues. In this class we will be discussing some common behaviors and conditions such as common health issues including high blood pressure, cholesterol, depression, weight, drugs, sleep, poor communication, self image, conditions which can, with concerted effort, be successfully moderated if not overcome. Techniques which we will discuss include goal setting, action planning , communication, medical intervention, exercise, which can be helpful in having a healthy mind and body. Cheryl will share her 65 years of experience and struggles dealing with her health issues and share what she has not only learned but put into practice.

ESPRIT, ESPRIT GALA and ESPRIT 2010 relate only to the yearly transgender conference
